Give your Respose

Too Young?

Vicki
November 10, 2005

Ironically, I had planned to blog about the latest National Geographic issue (November '05) featuring "The Secrets of Living Longer". In it is an article about three groups of people: Sardinians (from Italy), Okinawans (from Japan) and SDA's and how their lifestyles contribute to a longer, healthier, happier life. It's a cool article--check it out if you get a chance. There's stories about Marge, who, at 100 renewed her driver's license and helps out at the local "old folks home" (where most residents are younger than she is!), Frank who, at 100, is still water-skiing, and Lydia, who recently celebrated her 112th (!!) birthday. She was born in--get this--1893! They inspired me.

But then I saw the story online about someone much younger: 18-year-old Michael Sessions. On Tuesday he unofficially won a race for mayor in his Michigan town. He's not even out of high school yet! He said he plans to devote his after-school hours to the job. His bedroom will be his office.

Sometimes our society discounts the young and the old as somehow being of less worth or contributing less, but that doesn't have to be the case. Everyone has a contribution. Everyone has a dream.

Got a big dream? No matter your age, pray about it, and go for it. With God's help, you can reach it no matter how far-fetched it may seem to others. 1 Timothy 4:12 says, "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity." What kind of an example are you setting?
