December 15, 2006

“So I totally just tripped and fell in front of your husband,” I announced to Chris’ wife, Suzanne, in the hallway a few minutes later.

“Oh no! Are you OK?,” she gasped.

“I’m fine,” I told her. “I think I should include this in the piece I write. It will make it more realistic.”

Rock stars are people too, though. They make mistakes, fall down, and embarass themselves no matter how much preparation is put in beforehand.

This was demonstrated most accurately when Sara got up to sing her 2005 hit song, "When it was Over." I had not heard the song before the concert, so I didn't know it was about healing a broken relationship. I was surprised as I felt tears welling up while she sang, but from my second row seat, I could see Chris Williams wipe away a tear onstage too.

If you've ever made a really big mistake in a relationship or just grieved the way that the parting happened, you have to download Sara's song. It's one of the most beautiful songs (Christian or non-Christian) I've ever heard.

It reminds us that no matter what's happened, our mistakes can always be fixed. We will fall, we will hurt ourselves, and we will hurt each other. Because of God's grace, though, things can always be healed. We always have second chances.
