Your Days Are Numbered!

Your Days Are Numbered!

Well, Christmas 2013 is behind us, and a new year will be here soon. How exciting! I hope you’re planning something special with the people who are special to you. Remember, you’ll never have another New Year’s Eve 2013—ever again.

During this time of year I typically start to think about all the things I wanted to do in 2013. I recall all the things I actually did and didn’t do. Moses, of all the people in the Bible, had a great take on time and how we spend it. When looking at his life within the context of God, he wrote, “Our days may come to seventy years, or eighty, if our strength endures; yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away. If only we knew the power of your anger! Your wrath is as great as the fear that is your due. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:10-12, NIV).

In the next several days, take some time to be alone with God. Take a piece of paper and something to write with, and read all of Psalm 90. First, ask yourself this question: “Have I taken the best advantage of all the days that God has given me this past year? If not, why not?” Write down anything that comes to mind. Next, ask God this important question: “God, can You please teach me to make the days that I have left on this earth count the most for You?” Get ready to write, because I promise you, if you’re listening, He will give you enough to fill up a notebook . . . and then some!

Last, take another piece of paper, and let some of your New Year’s resolutions be based on what God has revealed to you. I know that it’ll be a powerful time. Take a minute to shoot me an e-mail. We can compare notes. I’d love to know what God has told you.

In the spirit of the new year, after you’re done with your journaling, take a minute to listen to this beautiful song from Christian singer-songwriter Chris Rice. It’s appropriately called “Life Means So Much,” and it’s based on the passage of scripture above. Here’s the link: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGsEYTh2Sf8.

Whether you like it or not, your days are numbered. Make 2014, and the rest of your days, count for God. Happy New Year!
