LET US HELP HAITI . . . NOW

A little more than 36 hours ago a major earthquake devastated Port-au-Prince, Haiti.

I woke up this morning thinking about the thousands who died in the rubble. I thought about the widespread devastation of hospitals, schools, and churches. The number of homeless is staggering!

I wondered, as you may have, what I could do for Haiti. The scale of the problem seems so massive and my resources so meager. One thing we can do is lift up our Haitian brothers and sisters in prayer. Early this morning the Review and Herald family met and prayed for the Haitian victims. Our hearts are deeply moved for those who suffer!

After praying, I felt the Lord calling us to help Haiti NOW! We needed to do something right away, so we decided to put our money where our prayers are. There are many tomorrows, but only one today!

The developer of our Insight Web site, Alejandra Rodriguez, comes from a city only 120 miles from the earthquake’s epicenter. Right now her home church, led by Pastor Patricio Escoto, is planning to bring water and food to Port-au-Prince. It’s an aid mission that I want to support financially.

We are partnering with ADRA’s emergency response fund and are using our relationships with other church organizations to get the dollars to the places where they are needed most. The needs are massive, both for short-term essentials such as water, food, and shelter, and long-term for materials to rebuild.

“There are buildings collapsed all around, traffic is barely moving, and a general sense of panic and loss of life is evident,” reports Ketteline Israel, assistant to the ADRA director in Haiti.

I figure you want to help as much as I do. Click here to make a credit card donation to Hope4Haiti. If you prefer, you can call 1-800-876-7313 to make a credit card donation by phone. You may also send a check, cash, or  money order to the address below. Anything you can give will make a huge difference. Tonight I’m going to eat a good meal. I’m going to crawl into a comfortable bed. Miles away in a devastated country, many of my Haitian brothers and sisters will go to bed hungry in the streets of Haiti with rocks for pillows. That’s not OK with me, and it shouldn’t be for you, either. Together we can make a difference in Haiti! Let’s send a little hope to Haiti.
